Morningside Middle School has overcome many challenges and changes since opening its doors in the Park Circle community. In 2009, the school moved to a single-gender classroom approach, giving differentiated instruction to boys and girls.
The gender-separate classes ultimately ended during the 2017/2018 school year when funding and support for this educational method dwindled on a state and national level. Morningside Middle currently serves sixth to eighth grade students and offers mixed-gender classes to give an inclusive approach to education.
While there are below-average test scores in English and math, experienced teachers work tirelessly to provide a quality education while instilling the importance of integrity and respect. In the classroom, students receive hands-on instruction and gain invaluable leadership and social skills through interactions with their peers.
The summer reading program, nationally recognized Project Lead the Way program for robotics and STEM projects, food drives and eighth grade send-off keep students involved in unique learning opportunities around the community. With a mission to support scholars academically and emotionally, the school welcomes stakeholder involvement and regularly hosts open-door meetings, solidifying its strong reputation around the neighborhood.
