Atwater Elementary School teaches approximately 700 kindergarten through 5th grade students in the Sarasota County School District. A true community school, it solicited input from locals for its name, school colors and “team” name, the All-Stars, before opening in 2009-2010. The school also grants public access to its playgrounds during non-school hours. With a vision of Excellence in Academics and Character, Atwater Elementary reinforces the second part through their H.E.A.R.T. program, which stands for the five overarching ideals – hard work, empathy, active learning, respect, and trustworthiness. Students who embody these are honored at the All-Star of the Month recognition ceremony. The school’s test scores and student progress are above the state average, with fewer students per teacher than Florida’s average. Uniforms are required for all students. Third through 5th graders can participate in extracurricular clubs centered on interests like Pokemon, photography and Spanish. Although its official colors are red, white and blue, Atwater is a “green” school, meaning that it has a school-wide recycling program, conservation efforts and is certified as a LEED Silver School by the U.S. Green Building Council. The 35 acre campus is located in a residential area and features basketball courts, a butterfly garden and playgrounds.

This school has such a hard time finding qualified teachers. Two years in a row my ESE student is being taught by an unqualified substitute. This school lacks communication and organization. The only time they really care is when their ratings look bad.

Amazing! My older two children went to Atwater years ago and my husband and I loved it so much we send out younger daughters there through the school choice program. It is the best elementary school in the area in my opinion! We love it!!!
