Built in 1901, Percy Julian Middle School is named after chemist Percy L. Julian, who developed hormone-based therapies for treating cancer and cortisone for relieving arthritic pain. Today, Percy Julian promotes academic excellence with a challenging curriculum of AP courses that include French and Spanish, literature, science, design, the humanities, math and health education. Percy Julian enrolls 977 students who enjoy an average class size of 20 and a student-to-teacher ratio of 13-to-1. 49 percent of Percy Julian Middle School students are proficient in reading and 41 percent are proficient in math. 98 percent of Percy Julian's students pass eighth grade algebra. Extracurricular physical activities offered at Percy Julian include girls’ and boys’ basketball, cross country, volleyball, track and field, ultimate frisbee and Special Olympics bowling, track, soccer, golf and rhythmic gymnastics. Students can explore their creativity through jazz or rock band, the jukebox choir, chess club, CAST theater or the spoken word. At Percy Julian Middle School, students are encouraged to pursue both their scholastic and personal ambitions for a rewarding educational experience.

The new principal at this school is awful. He provides new teachers with no support, he doesn't come in the classroom to observe and give teachers feedback, and he is afraid to directly address problems he might have with other staff members. Yet he has the nerve to determine the standing of his sta...

This school is failing their students. They don't put in the effort to make sure students have the help they need. They just give out work and leave the students to figure it out. The bullying is terrible and nothing is done about it, even when it's reported. Don't send your kids here if they can't...

I wish my son could go to a different school. Every day when he comes home he seems miserable and tired. The teachers give out so much homework, don't even try to teach, yell, and do nothing about fights (all of this is according to my son). I should have sent my son to a different school.
