Is it a high school? Is it a college? Actually it’s both - a learning center that offers students the chance to earn college credit while completing their high school graduation requirements. It’s OCA, Oceanside Collegiate Academy, a decidedly different kind of high school. Serving students in grades 9-12, OCA is a public charter school with a unique approach to everything from enrollment to class schedules. A maximum of 675 students each year attend the school. Placement priority is given to returning students and their siblings, and an annual lottery system allows prospective students from all over the state to apply for the remaining slots. Ninth and 10th graders follow an honors curriculum and are required to take one virtual class from home. A dual enrollment curriculum through Trident Technical College is used in 11th and 12th grades, and 90 percent of juniors and seniors are enrolled as full-time college students while attending Oceanside. These students can earn up to 60 college credits before they graduate. All students attend one of two academic sessions daily, either morning or afternoon, allowing them the rest of the day for athletics, extracurricular activities, or for part-time employment. It’s just one more part of the OCA approach.

Oceanside is a wonderful alternative to traditional high school with half-day school. The downside is there is not enough time for clubs or other activities to build friendships unless you happen to be involved in sports.

I appreciate the opportunity to attend a charter school that allows me to focus both on my academics and athletics. I have taken numerous dual-enrollment classes and plan to graduate with my Associate's Degree.

Overall, Oceanside Collegiate Academy is a great school. Over my 4 years of going here, I have grown and learned a lot. It's a nice school and you are able to have time to obtain a job while also focusing on school. I loved going here and would recommend it to everyone who loves sports.
