The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

At purnell I learned to meet wonderful people who prioritize their education. They helped me advance my education and become a better person. I was given wonderful advice from many teachers who guided me throughout my years to realize what I want to do with my life. There have been some tough times, but in the end I have never been happier. I had coaches strengthen my body and mind to the best it can be, to never look at myself any less. I remember coming to Purnell and being too shy to speak a word, but I was reassured by so many wonderful people to be my true self. Now I am more confident then I have ever been. It is time for me to grow more people and grow into a woman my parents always wanted me to be.

Purnell Swett is high school located in one of the poorest counties in the state of North Carolina. Despite being from such a harsh county it strives for the excellence in each of its students. But when the students come from poverty stricken homes and families, the school can only provide so much. Purnell provides plenty of opportunities for students but many of them will not take the first step.

All purnell care about is taking your money and expects you to be okay with that cause it's for the "school", they are talking our money little by little and When you do complain about them not doing anything for the school they just fund the sports like what is that gonna do for the students who don't play any sports? The food is terrible when they do have something decent they don't give you enough. And to top it off purnell wants you to pay hundreds of dollars for cap n gown and wouldn't let you decorate it.

I rate this school a 1 star because it wouldn't allow me to rate it a quarter of a star. My daughter was told that she couldn't wear hair bows at this school, and no tank tops period, not even under a shirt. A student was sent home this morning because she wore a tank top under a large shirt. And th...

I know we have the lottery now in NC but why do most of the kids not have books? My child gets PDFs emailed to her because they do not have enough books in several of her classes. My daughter went to school with a hole in the knee of her pants. The jeans were old and I haven't been able to afford to...

I agree that strong bonds can be made here at my school and yes the football program is good as well. But I am more concerned with my education than with doing what my peers are doing. Lots of them are into their clothes, or getting a boyfriend and that is good too, we have to live our lives but thi...
