P.S. 001 The Bergen is an elementary school serving pre-kindergarten through fifth grade in the Sunset Park community. Located on 47th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues, P.S. 001 jointly operates the Pena Herrera Playground with the Sunset Park community which can be found directly down 47th Street at 3rd Avenue. The current enrollment totals 845 students, making for quite a diverse community of young learners.
Offering a comprehensive arts program including dance, music, theater and visual arts to its students, the school houses a dance studio, music room, visual arts room and a media arts room. This District 15 school also features a special education program, as well as rigorous instruction in traditional coursework including reading, writing and mathematics. Students enjoy hands on learning and undivided attention with a modest student-to-teacher ratio of 8-to-1, making it quite easy for students to receive individualized instruction if they need additional assistance. A dual language program is also offered in both Spanish and English, though this requires a separate application process.

This school does not deal with Bullying effectively. They keep allowing the kids to run the school and the consequences are a joke. I wish i would have never put my kids in this school.

My son is currently in 2nd grade at this school, Kindergarten and 1st grade were awesome with excellent teachers, now that he is in 2nd grade I am not happy with his teacher, I think she is most worried about completing her program despite the kids gets to understand it or not.
