Built in 1938 with the name Ladue School, this educational institution was renamed Reed Elementary School in 1969, after principal Mamie Reed. Several additions have been made to the school since that time, including enhancements in 2022. Today, the school serves around 350 students in grades K-4. The vision behind the curriculum and activities at Reed is to create an inclusive learning community while meeting the academic needs of each individual student. This is accomplished through research-based instruction, character education, community outreach, technology application, STEM activities, the arts, and health and fitness programs. Beyond this core curriculum, a before and after school care program (BASC) offers a supervised, nurturing atmosphere to complement the classroom experience with nonacademic activities and play time. To keep parents up to date on the latest news and events at Reed, staff provide a weekly newsletter that is sent to parents every Friday. The Principal Dispatch also arrives in parents’ emails directly from the head of the school. Parents and students can also follow the district’s active social media pages. To access grades, assignments, schedules, and other information, Reed Elementary students and parents use Infinite Campus mobile apps. Reed Elementary has received an A+ overall rating from Niche for its academics and student life. Based on state test scores, 72 percent of Reed students are proficient or higher in math, and 82 percent are at that level in reading. In 2004, Reed Elementary was named a Gold Star School by the state, and Niche has ranked Reed in the top 10 best elementary schools in Missouri.

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

It wasn't great at times and good at others. I served 5 years at Reed and a lot happened. The bullying that I and other kids went through was bad. Worthy of middle schoolers. The teachers really did nothing about it. We weren't really watched during recess. I remember it being very easy to slip into...
