Margil Academy, home of the Eagles, is a public elementary school located on San Antonio’s West Side in the Gardendale neighborhood. The school serves pre-kindergarten through fifth grades and operates under the guiding principle that a good education is essential to setting a child up for success. Margil offers a rigorous and challenging academic curriculum to support students’ growth.
In addition to academic programming, the school has implemented a forward-thinking Social and Emotional Learning program that rewards students for choices and behavior that support their social and emotional growth. Margil Academy also offers dual language, gifted, and special education programs.
Constructed in 2006, Margil Academy was named for Antonio Margil, a Spanish Missionary who came to Texas in the 1700s and founded a Mission on the banks of the San Antonio River.
Margil Academy had an accountability rating of C during the 2018-2019 school year, which is slightly lower than the district’s average score of B. The academy excels, however, in its wide variety of after school activities offered.
Students at Margil enjoy extracurricular programs like choir, book clubs, robotics club, art club, safety patrols, as well as UIL competitions.
The school also partners with several community organizations for programming, including the local YMCA, SAYouth, the DoSeum, HEB, and the SATX Social Ride Bike Club.
