Inez Foster Elementary School is a part of the San Antonio Independent School District, the third largest school district in the greater San Antonio area. Named after former teacher and Assistant Superintendent Inez Foster, the school opened in 1961 at its present location. It is the third largest elementary school in the Highland Hills neighborhood and serves grades prekindergarten – five. NICHE which evaluates colleges and schools based on several core competencies, gives Foster an above average rating in the areas related to the teaching staff and in student body diversity. Employing tenets of Project Based Learning, Foster uses a student-centered approach that focuses on collaboration and development of critical thinking skills. Foundational curricula include Science, Reading, Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Social Studies. There are also Band and Gifted and Talented Programs available. Students have a number of extracurricular activities to select from focused in the area of Athletics. Offerings like Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, and Cross Country are just examples of programs that round out the educational opportunities at Foster.
