The IDEA Mays Academy’s name represents “Individuals Dedicated to Excellence and Achievement.” The school is a publicly and privately funded charter school providing education from kindergarten through the 12th grade. It is part of the IDEA Program charter network established in the state of Texas in 2000. Their motto is “No Excuses.” The program was devised by Tom Torkelson and JoAnn Gama in an effort to address deficiencies they believed existed in their local public-school system. Starting from a single after-school program in 1998, IDEA has grown dramatically, serving over 63,000 students at 120 schools in the school year 2020 – 2021. IDEA Mays Academy has three school levels to address student needs. Academy is for students enrolling in pre-K through the fifth grade. College Prep Middle School is for students enrolling in grades six through eight. College Prep High School is for students enrolling in grades nine through 12. Physical education is a part of the learning environment at IDEA Mays Academy. All students in grades K-12, including those with disabilities, special health-care needs, and in alternative educational settings, will receive an average of 135 minutes per week of physical education for Academy students and 225 minutes per week for College Preparatory students.

To honestly place a review on a school can be difficult due to the fact that there's backlash with speaking up and speaking out. I may not keep my child at this school for the upcoming year because this school has shown a great amount of discrimination, (teachers and students) bullying, and negative...

I enrolled my child believing they would make her would make her excel, only to find out a year later her cousins in a traditional school have caught up to her academically. Turns out her “teachers” aren’t even CERTIFIED by the state and can’t even spell if their lives depended on it. They’re just g...

Overall I like the schools handling of academics and the fluidity of grade levels. Students are not held back or left behind, which makes learning at your own pace easier. Homework is reasonable and valuable. The school does not have many extra curricular activities, but does have sports and recentl...
