Founded in 1984 by Kitty and Steve Williams on the grounds of their 5-acre organic farm, NewGate School’s Ashton Road campus harkens back to an earlier time. The private school, for children as young as eight weeks up to sixth graders, has 10 classrooms located in quaint cottages dotting the property. Gardens, a gazebo and shaded areas double as outdoor learning spaces. Two playgrounds and an athletic field round out the grounds, which are bounded by a white picket fence.
NewGate School follows the principles of Maria Montessori and finds new ways to incorporate these principles into the school’s present-day educational environment. Teachers at NewGate School strive “to cultivate a love of life and a curiosity that inspires academic excellence.”
NewGate’s Ashton Road students study traditional academic subjects but also explore creative and practical pursuits, such as music, art, foreign language and gardening.
As the Lab School for the Montessori Foundation, NewGate School plays an important role in developing new classes, programs and curricula for Montessori schools worldwide.
While the school is non-profit, it does charge tuition. Financial assistance is available to qualified applicants. NewGate accepts new applicants on a rolling admissions basis, and the process is set up to ensure a perfect fit between student and school.
NewGate students in grades 7-12 attend the school’s Lakewood Ranch campus.

So tired of this school. Was convinced it would be a good environment for my daughter but turned out to be one of the worst. Teachers show no support and are terribly lazy with their teaching for such an expensive school.
