Hillside Middle School is nestled in a park-like setting between Hillside and Pleasant Valley Road. One of three middle schools in the Parma City School District, Hillside is home to more than 600 students in grades fifth through seventh. Home to the Tigers, each grade is split into three teams of students – Stripes, Claws, or Paws – to create a more profound sense of community. Hillside also provides programming for special education and gifted and talented scholars.
Hillside is rated above average among middle schools in the state and is often the top-ranked middle school in the district. 79% of students scored at or above proficient for math, and 73% scored at or above proficient for reading. In 2014, the curriculum was shifted away from more traditional textbook learning to integrated technology and hands-on experiential learning.
Students can participate in cheerleading, cross country, football, or volleyball at the school. They can also participate in other extracurricular activities, including the yearbook club.
Parents can get involved in the Parent-Teacher Association or serve as a Parent Mentor. The Parent Mentor Project promotes communication between parents, children and schools. Parent mentors provide resources, guidance and support to those looking for it. These programs and others are all part of the TIGER Way: tolerance and teamwork, integrity, graciousness, excellence, and respect and responsibility.
