Located on North Broadway, also known as Tarrytown’s “school row,” and contiguous with the village’s larger high school, Sleepy Hollow Middle School enrolls over 600 students in sixth through eighth grade. There is an 11-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio, with the faculty rated among the top middle school teachers in New York State. With small class sizes and a high attendance rate, proficiency scores on standardized state tests are always improving. Sleepy Hollow Middle School’s social and emotional learning materials support the state’s “Every Student Succeeds Act” mandate, which prioritizes and promotes a positive school environment. The resources for the initiative outline benchmarks and frameworks for educators to implement Social Emotional Learning practices in schools and classrooms across New York. Studies have indicated the benefits of physically placing middle schools and high schools together, with shared facilities being the most obvious advantage. One resource shared by younger and older students at both schools is the Headless Horseman mascot, a horseback-mounted figure familiar from local Tarrytown legend and author Washington Irving’s famous story, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”

Many of the teachers at this school are wonderful, hardworking and interesting, and try their best to engage a difficult age group. Counselors are excellent and work to address issues and help students in need.Sadly, the administration fails the students. The school does not have consistent policies...

An amazing school with a smart dedicated staff who actually know each and every kid. It's a great prep for the Sleepy Hollow HS which offers more AP and after school activities than any other Westchester school we've seen.
