Alfred G. Zanetti Montessori School is a prekindergarten through eighth grade public school in the Liberty Heights neighborhood. As part of the Springfield Public School District, the school opened in 1964 and is named for Alfred George Zanetti, a former teacher and principal who taught in Springfield. Students at Zanetti Montessori take typical elementary and middle school courses in math, science, the humanities, music and art. In addition to academics, Zanetti Montessori offers team sports in basketball and soccer. Students and staff also participate in schoolwide events, challenges and celebrations throughout the year. What makes the school unique is a blended Montessori and standards-based curriculum for each course, which is an educational approach not found at most public schools. The Montessori method is designed to transform children into self-led learners with transferable skills and knowledge, which the students at Zanetti showcase each and every day. Zanetti Montessori School is located on Armory Street in Liberty Heights. Boland Elementary School and Springfield Day Elementary School are located right next door.
