Kensington International School is a public magnet school located on Kensington Avenue in the Forest Park neighborhood of Springfield. The school serves over 300 students from preschool through fifth grade.
The school, formerly known as the Kensington Avenue Magnet School, changed its name in 2014 to reflect the school’s International Baccalaureate Primary Years program. The IB status is held by only three Springfield schools and 3,698 schools worldwide, and Kensington’s Primary Years program is one of 1,782 worldwide.
The school also boasts a community garden with 16 raised garden beds, and students participate in classroom and community events centered around the garden and Springfield’s nature.
In addition to engaging in core instruction, students also enjoy art, music, physical education and Spanish classes. Class sizes also have a student-teacher ratio of 13-to-1, which is lower than the state average. The Kensington International School makes substantial progress toward its learning goals each year, and the IB and magnet program make this school one of the best elementary education options in Forest Park.

The Principal never seems to know what is going on. She seems to have no control over the children in her school. I had to speak to her several times about a bullying issue, but she couldn't even remember the countless times I had been in there to speak to her. It is probably because she walks away...
