Franklin Boys Preparatory Academy Magnet Middle School is near the Jackson Heights area of Tampa, Florida. The school opened in 2011 and currently enrolls sixth through eighth-grade boys who live in Hillsborough County.
As a magnet school, Franklin receives abundant applications from all over Hillsborough County. The school uses a lottery system to keep enrollment fair to determine the following year’s students. An extensive, technologically rich curriculum keeps students engaged, and teachers often use Smartboards or iPads.
Franklin Boys Preparatory Academy is also a Cambridge International School and infuses a curriculum designed by Cambridge educators into all core classes. The program emphasizes critical thinking and collaboration.
Franklin also offers many clubs and after-school activities to heighten students’ learning experiences, including a Model United Nations program that exposes students to globalized concepts. The academy has partnered with Mac Dill Air Force Base and held an Air Force Association Cyber Camp in the past, and each year students compete in the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition.
