Gorrie Elementary is a public school in the Hyde Park district of Tampa. The school has been educating students for over 125 years and serves students from kindergarten through the 5th grade. The school is the oldest operating elementary in the state. Aside from historical value, the school offers many life skills and extracurricular opportunities for its young scholars. Some valued offerings are yoga and mindfulness, community service, leadership, public speaking, chess club, art, STEM and robotics. These programs are also highly sought out by parents – especially those whose children are on a collegiate path. The leaders at Gorrie keep academia and public service at the forefront of the youngster’s studies. This is accomplished with community partners who mentor and provide community service and outreach opportunities for Gorrie students. These partnerships enrich the lives of Gorrie students and have earned the institution a Five Star School Award for community involvement from the state of Florida.
