Founded in 2004, City High School welcomes about 200 students in ninth through 12th grade for an alternative approach to education that focuses on hands-on exploration of contemporary issues. At this public charter school, students can prepare for life in the modern world. With a mission to nurture students in the habits of heart and mind, the school reinforces the principles of inquiry, evidence, perspective, expression, action and reflection throughout its curriculum. And students start by excelling in project-based learning rooted in self-discovery. And to encourage students to become more well-rounded, traditional subjects are offered with greater depth. Math courses go beyond algebra and calculus to include the high-demand, real-world disciplines of data science, computer coding and quantitative reasoning. And on the creative front, City High School offers arts electives in creative writing, drama, guitar, studio art and digital media to engage creativity in all areas of discourse. When it comes to overall student well-being, the school elevates the importance of personal health with fitness courses in bicycling, dance and yoga. Plus, students can participate in health and wellness courses as well as a restorative practice program that teaches students ever-important conflict-resolutions skills. And among the cornerstones of students’ education at are student-led conferences — where students give presentations about their progress to parents, peers and teachers — and exhibitions that expand their presentations to include members of the community. Throughout their education at City High School, students can achieve personal milestones that will set themselves up for success every day.

It's a very small school, especially compared to the huge public schools in the surrounding area. It has a real sense of community and a majority of students and teachers are very kind and caring. The location in the heart of downtown Tucson is great for students to experience and helps their overall education.

There is a wide variety of teaching styles, as all the teachers have very different backgrounds and are able to bring something new, with their experiences, to the table.

We love City High! Our daughter is thriving there and has made many friends. Their approach to learning is excellent and the after-school Voices program is great. They offer so many choices.
