Located on a historic campus near Downtown Tucson, Safford K-8 School is a public magnet school serving children in kindergarten through eighth grade as part of the Tucson Unified School District. The curriculum focuses on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, and integrates multicultural education as well. Outside of the classroom, students can also learn to play their favorite instruments in orchestra, band or mariachi, or compete in interscholastic sports including soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and field and elementary softball. They can enjoy hands-on learning on field trips to local attractions, like Canoa Ranch or Mission Garden, or find inspiration on virtual reality field trips to sites well beyond the limits of travel. In addition to everyday extracurriculars, Safford also offers programs to help all students feel part of the community including Mexican American student services, a Tucson Korea Ambassador Program and a Wright Flight program, where aviation professionals and pilots inspire students through experiences related to aviation and aerospace. To share in their children’s learning, parents and caregivers are welcome to attend Safford Cafecito as students showcase their artwork or other projects, give presentations or put on musical performances.

The administration of Safford speaks of equity. There is none. Students who do the same infractions do not receive the same consequences and this is known by all the students. A student walked into a classroom and shouted that he was going to beat the hell out of students in the class. The students he threatened were terrified. He was still on campus the following school day. Other students get in arguments and are suspended for multiple days. The administration of Safford speaks of students being safe and cared for. They are not safe. Students are jumped regularly in the hallways and beaten up severely. Several have gone to the hospital this year. Students with IEPs in middle school grades do not receive their services at this school and those who seek to correct this issue are threatened in order to silence them. I do not recommend sending your children to this school.
