Uni allows students to take U of I classes but the classes are not for everyone. If and only if the student's parents are affiliated with University, she/he has the chance to take classes. Uni does not offer AP prep courses but students have the option to take AP exams on their own.

Overall, I've had a really good experience at Uni! Academics are mostly really good. I've had some less than stellar teachers—many of whom are knowledgeable in their subject areas, but struggle teaching them at a beginner level—but others have been incredible. The workload's tough, but manageable if you're not overloaded with extracurriculars. There's a diversity of personalities in the student body, but kids are generally passionate and motivated, and mostly very friendly. There's some competition in academics and extracurriculars especially related to college apps , and also somewhat of a culture of cynicism and negativity. Still, I've met some amazing people, and I wouldn't swap my experience for a more typical high school one. I'd say the biggest advantage of Uni is the breadth of opportunities offered by our connection with the U of I, from enrolling in college classes to working with professors to attending undergrad events to grabbing boba on Green St. during free period.

I liked Uni because of its flexible approach to learning and the freedom given to the students. Especially as you get older you have the ability to choose what you want to learn and how, lots of experimental options/classes, and you're given pretty much free reign of the building and the U of I campus and facilities. Uni does have a reputation for being difficult and toxic, and there is some of that, but in my experience all my classes were manageable and if you choose your friends well, it's not too competitive. However there is a pretty stressed vibe around exam days. My main complaint is that the school is very much in a wealthy bubble, and not enough black or Latino students - though that's improving slightly. Overall cool classes, a close sense of community w/ fun/weird traditions, unique learning, but a few areas need improvement.

Much better than public schools. You are challenged to AP levels academically. Small school size allows more participation in sports and theater. Parents and student body focused on academic achievement. In my class 100% went on to college. GREAT school highly recommend

I had a chance to study in Uni High as an exchange program. The teachers are amazing and very dedicated to academics and education. One best thing I like about Uni High is that you got chances to take classes in UIUC, and even talk to the professors while you're still in high school! That definitely...

This school is amazing. It is regarded as one of the elite public high schools in the nation. After having seen the faculty, my son's curriculum, his numerous and diverse extracurricular activities, and his fellow students, I am convinced that the school's reputation is well-deserved. I am familiar...

My sister and all my friends went to this school. It's one of about 5 "Laboratory Schools" (run by a University) in North America (the concept was invented at U-Chicago, there is also U-Toronto but it separated, Cameron Crowe graduated from U-San Diego, etc.) This school ROCKS and student SAT scores...
