A little bit of fun, a little bit of fantasy, and a whole lot of teamwork make a positive learning environment for the students at Minnie Hughes Elementary School. Serving grades PreK through 5, this neighborhood school uses hands-on learning, inquiry and exploration, and a “House” system to inspire and motivate young minds. Known as the Mini-Cats, Minnie Hughes students have a unique social structure. They are divided into four Hogwarts style Houses, each one representing a different character trait: courage, friendship, giving, and dreaming. The Houses encourage teamwork, collaboration, and school spirit, while adding a little fun to the school day. Students are sorted into their Houses at the beginning of the year by the Sorting Spinner, and their House becomes both their learning and support group for building friendships during the year. Students attend House meetings and work together to gain points for their House. Minnie Hughes Elementary School is also part of Project Lead the Way, an initiative that taps into children’s exploratory nature and uses science and technology to encourage students to solve real world challenges. There is also an after-school program with 21st Century After School Learning, a program offering project-based learning and enrichment clubs.

My daughter attended this school in grades k4-k5 and the teachers were absolutely wonderful. My daugter was reading fluently in the kindergarten and she excelled wonderfully. The staff there was absolutely wonderful, and friendly.
