Historical and hilly, close to Lake Union
Queen Anne, one of the most iconic parts of Seattle, has a historical background, shown by the Victorian Queen Anne homes that gave their community its name. The eastern side of Queen Anne is close to the shores of Lake Union. Within several miles, there's Seattle Center with the Space Needle, Pike Place Market and Elliott Bay's piers and ferries.
"It's not flat; Queen Anne is a big hill," says Eric Robison, a designated broker with Keller Williams Downtown Metro Seattle and a Washington state Realtor for over two decades. "Galer Street is basically at the top. Then the slope goes down to Lower Queen Anne." Views from elevated lots include the Space Needle, Puget Sound, Lake Union and the Olympic Mountains. Many streets are laid out in gridded blocks, with sidewalks and the occasional roundabouts, slowing traffic. Trees, hedges and custom landscaping are the norm.

Victorians, modern homes and condos
Architectural styles reflect the area's history; many older homes were restored decades ago. There are the Victorian Queen Anne homes that gave the area its name, Craftsman bungalows, Dutch Colonials, storybook Tudor cottages and modern 2000s to 2020s houses. "The homes up there on top of Queen Anne are very expensive," Robison says. Single-family home prices start around $1 million and can go as high as $7.3 million for vintage mansions.
Townhouses, many built in the last decade, are $800,000 to $1.9 million, with that range related features and square footage. Condos are found in both historic and modern buildings. Prices range from $320,000 to $1.7 million. Included are everything from condos of less than 500 square feet to 2,000-square-foot penthouses with sweeping views. Homeowners association monthly fees are proportional to values, typically $112 to $1,200.

Queen Anne Ave., boutiques, a farmers market
Queen Anne Avenue is a place to go for dining and retail. Breakfast at 5 Spot is available until 3 p.m., and lunch and dinner are also on the menu. Canlis, located inside a stunning midcentury home, is a fine-dining go-to that’s been a mainstay for over 70 years. \
Independently owned stores and boutiques include Stuhlberg's, for home goods and décor and Blue Highway Games, for everything from puzzles to role-playing games. The shop hosts weekly and monthly events for the community. There's a Trader Joe's in this area as well. The Queen Anne Farmer's Market is on Thursday afternoons from May to October. There are specialty Saturday markets for Halloween and Thanksgiving harvests and the Winter Solstice.

Queen Anne Elementary, McClure Middle
Public schools include Queen Anne Elementary School, which has an A-minus grade from Niche. Each month, global citizenship traits are taught through stories. Fourth and fifth graders participate in Seattle Public Library's global reading challenge, culminating in a competitive quiz game face-off against other schools. McClure Middle School earns an A and has the McClure Ethnobotanical Garden with plants for food and medicinal purposes. At the high-school level is The Center School, which has a B-plus and a No. 13 by Niche ranking for Washington's high schools for the arts.

Wales Park, greenbelts, lakeside sites
Queen Anne has about a dozen community parks or open spaces. Thomas C. Wales Park, transformed from a gravel pit overgrown with invasive plants, was designed by landscape architects to integrate art, native plantings and bird habitats. Northeast Queen Anne Greenbelt has trail access, benches and views to the east of the Cascade Mountains and Lake Union, perhaps with seaplanes in flight.
Closer to the lake, Westlake Greenbelt is within walking distance of marinas such as Western Yacht Harbor and Nautical Landing. A nearby houseboat community, Westlake, is literally on the lake.
Thomas C. Wales Park in East Queen Anne is a popular spot for locals to take their dog on walks.

Transportation
King County Metro and Sound Transit buses serve Seattle, and in East Queen Anne, stops are on streets like Queen Anne Avenue, Fifth Avenue and Boston Street. "It's a great intercity neighborhood," Robison says. "People can commute to work really quickly, and there's the Seattle Center for sporting events and concerts."
Lake Union Park Station and Westlake & Mercer Station are the closest spots for Sound Transit Link light rail. Many people use the refillable ORCA card for Seattle's public transportation.
State Route 99 runs through the side of East Queen Anne, closest to Lake Union, with the Aurora Bridge crossing. To the north, after passing Green, SR-99 runs parallel to Interstate 5. Taking SR-99 south, it's about 16 miles to Seattle–Tacoma International Airport, Sea-Tac.
