Although the top-rated schools draw in families, people from all walks of life enjoy the town’s well-kept parks and trails, large recreation center and active community. “There's a lot of diversity in Solon, and there’s people of all generations. Solon schools earn A-pluses across the board
According to Niche, the Solon City School District is the best school district in the Cleveland area. The town has three elementary schools: Parkside Elementary, Grace L. Roxbury Elementary and Dorothy E. Lewis Elementary, all with A-plus grades from Niche. Students then progress to Orchard Middle School for grades five and six and Solon Middle School for grades seven and eight before attending Solon High School. All three schools also earned A-pluses. All the schools in Solon are National Blue Ribbon Schools, an award from the U.S. Department of Education recognizing schools with high levels of academic achievement.

Solon has several parks and trails for visitors to enjoy, and “they’re in the process of redoing all the parks,” Spacek says. Solon Community Park has 10 baseball fields, 12 tennis courts and two playgrounds serving residents. Next to the park sits the Solon Community Center, an extensive facility with a gymnasium, weight room, rock climbing wall, and indoor and outdoor pools. Locals can also visit the nearby South Chagrin Reservation, which has extensive trails alongside creeks and scenic views like the waterfalls at Quarry Rock Overlook.

Solon’s City Hall, Parks & Recreation, Center for the Arts and Senior Center host events
The Solon Center for the Arts regularly hosts events and classes for children and adults. “There’s something for everybody. There are dance levels and art classes for all ages.” The city also hosts community events year-round, including its seasonal festivals in the Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, a summer pickleball tournament, and other gatherings like Yoga in the Park and Movies in the Park. Solon also has regular farmers markets from June to September. For community members over 60, Solon has an active senior center offering group activities like fitness classes, book clubs, volunteer opportunities, art programming and supportive services.

Solon has several shopping plazas with chain restaurants and shops, including Solon Mall Shopping Center with an ALDI and Solon Square Shopping Center with Planet Fitness and Dollar Tree. For more extensive shopping trips, locals can drive 11 miles north to Beachwood Place mall. The town has chain restaurants like Chick-fil-A and Longhorn Steakhouse, as well as local options scattered throughout. Commuting and working in Solon
Solon is about 20 miles southeast of Downtown Cleveland. The city is largely car-dependent and is just off U.S. Route 422, connecting residents to the larger metro area. “It’s got a great location and proximity to the freeway,” Spacek says. Solon is also home to several large employers, including Swagelok Company, with nearly 3,600 employees and Nestle Food Company, with about 2,400 employees.

Solon provides easy access to Route 422 for commuting to Cleveland and surrounding areas.
