Easy access to Horton Smith Golf Course
Most neighborhoods would be lucky to contain one large outdoor getaway, but Sherwood has two. Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park and Horton Smith Golf Course anchor the neighborhood, with homes, schools and businesses around it. Homeowners can explore the park's vast gardens and historical sites or take a quick drive to spend the day golfing. “For people who can’t afford to live on a golf course, it’s very conducive to that,” says Shirley Franklin, a Realtor with Old World Realty. “If they can’t live in Highland Spring Country Club or Rivercut Golf Course, it works out really well.” Locals can also work nearby at one of the area's many supply warehouses or commercial businesses. And when residents want to take a trip to Downtown Springfield, they can be there after a short 4-mile drive. The Sherwood neighborhood gives residents opportunities to work, play and relax.

Spending hours exploring Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park
The Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park has multiple themed gardens, a butterfly house, a historic cabin, a playground, Lake Drummond and miles of trailheads for locals to explore. Visitors of all ages can stop and smell a variety of flowers in the Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden, Dwarf Conifer Garden or Redbud Garden. Those who visit might need to return for another day of walking around the park to see every garden and monument. The park is also a popular place to hop on the South Creek Greenway and walk, bike or blade the 6-mile trail east to McDaniel Park or west to Horton Smith Golf Course. “I’ve been to the park a few times with my family. But my client, he liked to go for runs in the park,” says Joseph Bex, an experienced Realtor with AMAX Real Estate. Named after Springfield native and two-time Masters champion Horton Smith, the public 18-hole golf course offers well-kept greens for beginner and veteran players alike.

Ranch homes with views of Horton Smith Golf Course
The homes in Sherwood sit around the public Horton Smith Golf Course. Future residents can find three-bedroom ranch homes, split-level homes and simple bungalows. “My client had to transfer out of state for his job, but he loved living there,” Bex says. Most homes have more than 1,000 square feet and often sell for $110,000 to $285,000. Skinny sidewalks run on one side of the street, giving residents a path to use when running or walking their dogs. Walkers are often shaded by the tall trees that sit in almost every front yard. Many residents park their cars within attached garages, so drivers don’t have to dodge cars parked on the street. Those who want to live in Sherwood but aren’t ready to own a home can find an apartment at Whiteside Place Apartments or The Villages at Nathanael Greene.
