Tahoma is a small mountain community on the western shores of Lake Tahoe, drawing both full-time residents and seasonal vacationers. Most area homes were built in the late 1970s and lean toward log cabin styles with exposed wood exteriors, though A-frame residences and mountain estates with Tudor influences also can be found. Some properties are on private lakefront lots with piers extending onto the lake. Students attend schools in the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point State Park hosted cross-country skiing and biathlon events during the 1960 Winter Olympics. Today, it maintains more than 10 miles of ski and snowboard trails, with rangers occasionally leading snowshoeing tours. Warmer months bring hiking, fishing and swimming, and residents with lake access can dock their boats or go kayaking. Along state Route 89 is Chambers Landing, the oldest bar in Lake Tahoe, which serves pub fare on its pier each spring and summer. The Dog and Bear Tavern has pizza and other entrees, plus a wine list.
