A small mountain community along the shores of Lake Tahoe
Tahoma, a small community on the western shores of Lake Tahoe, was exclusively a vacation resort over a century ago. Today, Tahoe is home to both full-time residents and seasonal vacationers. The name Tahoma comes from combining "Tahoe" and "home. The name helps make all residents feel at home, whether they live in the community year-round or only part of the year. Speaking of homes, many in Tahoma look like Lincoln Log log cabins, varying in size and price. While all residents have panoramic views of Lake Tahoe from their homes, some have the added bonus of their backyards being the lake itself.

Direct Lake Tahoe access allows residents to easily enjoy water sports, activities
Having the glistening waters of Lake Tahoe as their backyard, Tahoma residents take full advantage of the water. They can dock their boats, go kayaking, swimming and more. During winter, locals can go ice skating, skiing, snowboarding and tubing in Tahoma and nearby communities. Tahoma is home to the Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point State Park, which hosted the cross-country skiing and biathlon events during the 1960 Winter Olympics. Today at Sugar Pine Point State Park, locals can ski and snowboard on 11 miles of trail and occasionally, park rangers lead snowshoeing tours of the park. Locals can camp overnight at the park during winter; however, more camping sites are open for the summer. In the warmer months, locals can go hiking, fishing and swimming.

Luxuriously log cabin-styled homes sit on private lakefront lots
Tahoma residents experience mountainside and lakeside living simultaneously. They can wake up to the lulls of the water and take a deep breath of mountain air. A canopy of tall pine trees encompasses the community. The towering trees are everywhere, from alongside the steep mountain roads to in between houses, providing some privacy. Homes in Tahoma begin at around $450,000 for co-ownership opportunities, $650,000 for single-family homes of two bedrooms, $900,000 for four bedrooms and can reach over $4 million for five-bedroom houses. Sometimes, lakeside estates of nine bedrooms or more can cost between $15 million to $35 million. Most Tahoma homes were built in the late 1970s. While most homes take on a log cabin style— many with an exposed wood exterior feature — there are also A-frame styled residences and mountain estates, some with Tudor influences. Homes also feature piers straight out to the lake or rail lines so residents can easily load a boat in and out of Lake Tahoe.

Longstanding taverns and small local markets sit along State Route 89
Chambers Landing, the oldest bar in Lake Tahoe, is open in Tahoma during the spring and summer. This tavern offers American pub eats and a variety of libations either on its pier or in its open-air indoor seating area. The Dog and Bear Tavern, which has only been in business for about three years, quickly became a favorite among locals. The tavern offers dinner options of salads, pizzas and entrees and a varied wine list. For a caffeine jolt, residents can go to Where We met, a small espresso bar that also serves gelato. To grab groceries in town, residents can shop at Tahoma Market & Deli, that offers an array of fresh produce, cheeses and meats, also has a wide selection of prepared foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
