Why Live in Townsend
Named for Charles Townshend, a former British Secretary of State whose family helped fan the flames of the Revolutionary War, the post-industrial community of Townsend is known today for its country feel. Once a center of manufacturing and farming, Townsend was also a proud village of Yankees that sent nearly 100 men to fight in Concord after the British arrived in 1755. Cape Cods, contemporary country homes built in the early 1990s and rustic Revolutionary War-era colonials all cost about $400,000. Home lots range from a quarter acre closer to the center of town to more than 1 acre. Prices range between $200,000 and $1 million. Townsend is part of the North Middlesex Regional School District, a school system with nearly 3,000 students, seven schools and a B rating from Niche.
