Country Glenn is near the University of Arizona, dining and downtown
Country Glenn’s residential streets are about 5 miles from downtown Tucson with rocky mountains painting the backdrop. Desert shrubs adorn many front lawns of homes with a median lower than surrounding areas. Thoroughfares lead to trendy foodie areas, specifically those near the University of Arizona. “It’s a little kitschy and a cute area,” says Tony Ray Baker, a Realtor with RE/MAX Professionals with over 30 years of experience. “You could ride your bike and go straight to the university, so for a professor, student or anybody who wanted to live in that Campbell area, it would be great.”
Ranch-style homes, investment properties and apartments
Ranch-style homes with carports were built from the 1940s to early 1980s, some have adobe exteriors, and others have brick or slump block. Prices range from about $210,000 to $460,000. Many homeowners treat properties as investments, renting them out. Apartments are also in the area, with rents from about $700 for a studio to just over $1,200 for a two-bedroom.
Restaurants from Campbell Avenue to Grant Road and Campbell Plaza
Grant Road is dotted with various restaurants, including Jun Dynasty Chinese Restaurant, which serves Szechuan-style cuisine. Baja Café specializes in Southwestern twists on American breakfasts and lunches on Campbell Avenue. Culinary Dropout crafts elevated American bar fare in a dining room with games, such as cornhole. “One side is a more intimate restaurant, and the other is the big open game area with tables and chairs. You can sit and scream at each other, drink a beer and play ping pong, be rowdy,” Baker says. “Campbell Ave. is very food-centric, kids and adults love going there, because it’s like a little restaurant row, lots of food.” The Campbell Plaza shopping center has an Albertsons and an Ace Hardware.
Tucson schools and Career and Technical Education at Catalina High
Country Glenn spans the north region of the Tucson Unified School District's attendance zone. In this district, students have the option of school choice and open enrollment, both of which require applications. Neighborhood schools include Cragin Elementary School, which Niche rates a C-plus. Doolen Middle School earns a B-minus grade. Catalina High School, which offers Career and Technical Education (CTE) culinary and construction programs, scores a C-plus.
The University of Arizona is about 3 miles away with over 150 majors and programs, including business administration and medicine.
Parks with splash pads, playgrounds and outdoor exercise equipment
The community does not have a public park but it is central to many city parks, such as La Madera. Outdoor exercise equipment is adjacent to the park’s playground, splash pad and basketball court. Brandi Fenton Memorial Park sits on the north bank of the Rillito River, a normally dry wash that fills with rainwater during monsoon season, usually lasting from approximately June 15 to September 30. The park is also home to an equestrian area, multi-use athletic fields and covered basketball courts, among many other features. Palm trees tower over Tahoe Park’s shaded playground with balancing and climbing structures.
Bike-friendly roads to campus, Sun Tran buses and airport access
Glenn Street and Grant Road are both bike-friendly thoroughfares that lead to Campbell Avenue, a road bound for downtown Tucson, including the University of Arizona. The Banner University Medical Center is about 2 miles away, also on Campbell. Tucson’s public transit provider, Sun Tran, operates bus services along Glenn Street and both Country Club and Grand roads. The Tucson International Airport is about 10 miles away, via South Kino Parkway, and only provides direct domestic flights.
