Wakefield’s East Side offers a variety of housing near downtown restaurants and the commuter rail to Boston. “It’s a very vibrant town. It’s really grown in the past few years, and I've noticed more younger people moving to town,” says Bernie Starr, a broker associate with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Commonwealth Real Estate who lived in the Wakefield area for 17 years. “They’re building a lot of condos and apartments in the general vicinity of the commuter rail.” That growth has reached the East Side, which is close enough to downtown that many of the turn-of-the-century homes here have been converted to condos, and new townhouses and condo complexes have been built. Wakefield’s parks and the Breakheart Reservation state park are close, as are U.S. Route 1 and Interstate 93, two major routes into Boston, which is 14 miles away.
