Warrenville offers picturesque views and quick city access

Hugging the shores of the DuPage River, 31 miles from the Chicago Loop, is the cozy village of Warrenville. The area was once the home of renowned pastoral painter Adam Albright, and today’s residents will find that the natural serenity of his Warrenville-inspired paintings is still alive in the town’s flowing river and surrounding natural areas. “The town's location is really attractive to homebuyers,” says Cindy Banks, a broker with Re/Max Cornerstone. “It’s a bedroom community just a short drive from the amenities and shopping found in Naperville, Geneva and Wheaton, and the houses are more affordable compared to those surrounding communities.”

Scenic forest preserve invites hiking, kayaking and fishing

As was captured by Albright, the area has a vibrant natural landscape. Driving along Batavia Road will take you to Warrenville Grove Forest Preserve, where you can cast a line from the river’s edge, enjoy a relaxing picnic or go for a hike along the West Branch DuPage River Trail, which winds through the preserve for a mile. You can also launch your canoe or kayak from Warrenville Grove for a peaceful paddle along the water.

The village has condos, cottages and a wide price range

Walking along the residential streets of Warrenville will take you past a variety of home styles, with the most common being modern craftsman-style builds, split-levels and modest ranch-style homes. Prices here range from $200,000 for quaint, 1950s cottages to $900,000 for modern traditionals with high ceilings and beautifully landscaped lawns. You'll also find a selection of condos and townhomes in the village's northwestern corner.

Local schools have diverse extracurriculars and strong ratings

The public schools here are a big draw for homebuyers, with all local schools receiving overall Niche grades of A-minus or higher. Just over 400 students attend Bower Elementary School, where the average student-teacher ratio is 10-1. A five-minute drive to the east is Hubble Middle School, which falls in the top 10 percent of public middle schools in Illinois. Heading further north, you’ll find Wheaton Warrenville South High School, which earns an impressive overall Niche grade of A-plus. Here, students will find a lengthy list of extracurriculars to peruse, including clubs centered around coding, bass fishing and pottery, and a range of performing arts programs from theatre to marching band.

Library events and local shops add to Warrenville’s cozy character

Evolet Eve is a cozy wine bar off of Batavia Road, where you can indulge in a refreshing hand-crafted cocktail, craft beer or glass of wine. You can also visit Evolet Eve to pick up a bottle of wine made less than a mile away at La Forge Family Vineyard. On the southeastern edge of town, alongside the Des Plaines River, is Al’s Pizza. With its doors first opening in 1959, Al’s was the first pizza joint in Warrenville when it began serving up hot slices. Today, it is still a town favorite when it comes to good old fashioned 'za.

Locals can stop by the Warrenville Public Library to pick up something new to read or to check out one of its programs. The library hosts family story times, adult game nights, book club meetings and more. After a trip to the library, stock up on your groceries and other day-to-day essentials at the nearby Tom’s Market.

Annual Summer Daze celebration offers downtown entertainment

On the first weekend of August, Warrenville residents flock toward downtown for Summer Daze, an annual festival that brings community members together with live music, games, rides and food from local vendors.
