Why Live in Cross Junction
Farmstands, mountains and a lakeside development make up Cross Junction, a community covering the northeast corner of Frederick County and stretching to the West Virginia state line. Most homes are in Lake Holiday, a gated community surrounding a lake of the same name. The development started as a weekend getaway, but it has evolved into a permanent home for most residents, says Lake Holiday Board of Directors President Elizabeth Hair. The 1,000-home subdivision is one of the only lake communities of its size in the county, and the semi-rural landscape and recreation bring in retirees, families and others who want to remove themselves from the hustle and bustle but live 30 minutes from the county seat of Winchester. Outside the gates of Lake Holiday, farms and scattered homes dot the countryside. Construction kicked off in Lake Holiday in the ‘70s, and the community’s earliest homes display the most architectural variety. A-frame houses with tall windows, angular contemporary houses and split-levels with timber framing are all found along the winding roads. Homes built since the ‘90s are more similar in style, often new traditional designs with Colonial Revival or Cape Cod
