When the great outdoors beckons, Winfield has about 68 acres of parkland. The East Street Park is nearly 6 acres and includes baseball fields, basketball courts, playgrounds and picnic tables. Sports lovers can head to Oakwood Park, where they can have a restful picnic under the shade of a mature maple after using the park’s sports facilities for a game of basketball, tennis, roller hockey or volleyball. The Winfield Riverwalk is a 3-mile walking and biking trail that follows the banks of the DuPage River and is part of the 30-mile-long DuPage River Trail. Musical nights and family fun
On warm summer nights, residents pack up lawn chairs and picnic baskets and head to the Winfield Riverwalk Park bandshell to enjoy an evening of music and entertainment. In September, locals soak up three days of live music, fun and activities during Winfield’s Good Old Days festival. The event includes carnival rides, kids’ activities, bingo and a parade. St. John’s Church serves as a focal point for Winfield by hosting fish fries, collecting food for the unhoused and providing a central location for people to participate in their community.
Getting in and out of town
Winfield is 28 miles west of downtown Chicago and 39 miles southwest of O’Hare International Airport. The community sits 16 miles south of Interstate 55 and 14 miles north of I-90. Winfield Station is on the Union Pacific West line and provides rail service to Chicago’s business district.
