The quiet Depot Bench has walkable shops, restaurants and parks
Depot Bench is a scenic neighborhood that combines the calm serenity of the suburbs with quick access to Downtown Boise. The community sits high on a plateau known as the Boise Bench, offering views of the city and the mountains to the northeast. You’ll find well-maintained homes sitting on tree-lined streets throughout this area. Walkability is a big plus here, with locally owned restaurants and popular parks just a short stroll from home.

Eclectic home options range from cottages to condos
A mix of housing styles fills the streets of Depot Bench, although ranch-style homes and cottages are the most common. Some large properties in the northern end have contemporary, Mediterranean and Colonial Revival elements. Homes here often have spacious, grassy yards and tall, leafy trees, with other shrubs adding color and variety. Most single-family home prices fall between the mid-$300,000s and the lower $700,000s, but there are outliers. “My favorite word is eclectic, because you can have a million-dollar home, and then a $400,000 home right next to it,” says Helen Law, an associate broker at Group One Sotheby’s International Realty with 25 years of experience. Condos are also available in the neighborhood. Units under 1,600 square feet range from the lower $300,000s to the upper $600,000s. Larger condos cost between the upper $900,000s and lower $1,300,000s.
Massive ranch-style homes with large lots are plentiful in the neighborhood.
Mature homes and landscaping is what you’ll find throughout the community.

Easy trips and walkable routes throughout Boise
Commutes are short from Depot Bench. “You can walk to downtown so easily if you were so inclined,” Law says. “Any kind of commute is so easy.” Downtown is about 2 miles away, making it easy to drive, walk or bike there. Law says people often use the greenbelt to get around the city too. Major highways like U.S. Route 26 and Interstate 84 are close by, and bus routes connect the neighborhood to downtown, the airport and shopping centers.
A quieter alternative to downtown living
While the homes, parks and convenience are all big perks, the calm setting of the neighborhood is another draw to Depot Bench. “A lot of people choose it because it doesn’t have the noise,” Law says. “Condos downtown are definitely noisy, but the condos up here are so quiet.” The busy roads in the area can be loud, but most of the neighborhood offers a peaceful feeling compared to downtown.
