As a college town, Boulder is known for being home to the University of Colorado Boulder. This public institution is known for its scenic campus and excellent law program. CU Boulder also boasts four Noble Prize winners and has several top-ranking graduate programs including Environmental Law, Geology, Aerospace Engineering Sciences, and Atomic/ Molecular/ Optical Physics. Boulder is revered for its top-notch K-12 schools as well. The city is served by Saint Vrain Valley School District and Boulder Valley School District. Saint Vrain Valley School District operates 60 schools and Boulder Valley School District comprises 56 schools. There are eight private schools in Boulder. Both are award-winning districts and consistently rank as being some of the best school systems in the state. Both districts have excellent AP and IB programs, along with a variety of extra-curricular activities. Commuting in Boulder
Boulder transportation options illustrate the city's value of being eco-friendly and sustainable. Although driving remains the most popular mode of transportation, Boulder is pedestrian-friendly and bicycle-friendly thanks to its abundance of sidewalks, walkable downtown district, and various bike lanes and trails. The average commute is about 17 minutes; however, Boulder is experiencing more traffic as it grows, so the city is expanding roadways to meet traffic demands. Regional Transportation District and Via Mobility Services provide Boulder with local and regional bus services. There are several routes dedicated to CU students and trailhead drop-offs. The city also offers paratransit, shuttles, rideshare, and bike sharing services. The closest commercial airport is Denver International Airport, which is about 45 miles away.
