Highbridge is a residential neighborhood in the West Bronx with access to the city and views of the Harlem River. Overlooking Upper Manhattan, it has hilly streets lined with brick co-op buildings and is named after the High Bridge, New York City’s oldest standing bridge. Housing in Highbridge centers on prewar co-op buildings, many with Art Deco details, sunken living rooms and hardwood floors. Options range from studios to three-bedroom units, and some are income-restricted HDFC co-ops with eligibility and financing rules. Multifamily homes come on the market less often. The neighborhood is walkable and transit-friendly, though steep streets and stairways can make some walks feel longer. The 4 train runs along Jerome Avenue, with the B and D near the Grand Concourse. Metro-North’s Hudson Line stops at Yankees–E. 153rd Street.
For things to do, residents head across the High Bridge to Manhattan’s Highbridge Park for wooded trails, playgrounds, athletic facilities, a skate park and a pool. Local green spaces include Nelson Playground, Merriam Playground, Taqwa Community Farm, Reverend T. Wendell Foster Park and Macombs Dam Park near Yankee Stadium. Bronx Academy of Promise Charter School and All Hallows High School both have high ratings. Shopping and dining are within walking distance along Ogden Avenue, Jerome Avenue and Edward L.
