Ideally situated, quality construction condo in Woodside
Located near major highways, rail and subway links, 61-20 Woodside Avenue is a four-story condominium with a solid red brick exterior and 68 oversized units. Erected in 1942, the rectilinear building features curtain wall windows and a flat roof; architectural features indicative of the more restrained Art Moderne style, an evolution of Art Deco that developed at the time. Quality construction details indicative of the era like high ceilings, hardwood floors and crown molding are the norm throughout. However, most of the especially deep true one-bedroom residences have been updated with open-concept kitchens, new appliances and refinished bathrooms. The main draw here is proximity to Woodside’s dynamic but not overrun downtown and its rich culinary offerings, all within a tight, walkable section of Woodside and Roosevelt avenues. Common areas like the marble-clad and glass brick enclosed lobby — with monitored entry and wheelchair access — are well maintained.
Large homes with distinct architectural features and recent updates
The condo incorporates spacious 665-square-foot one-bedrooms priced around the $500,000 mark. Large industrial-scale, 6-foot-high windows extend to the ceiling, filtering in tons of natural light through to large hardwood floor bedrooms and living rooms that incorporate open-concept kitchens delineated by tile or laminate. Southern exposure units toward the rear have large bay windows, while those on the top floor frame partial Manhattan skyline views. Like any older building, the state of renovation varies greatly from unit to unit as previous owners have introduced their own alterations over time. On the market in fall 2024, corner unit 2V features sleek all-black kitchen cabinetry and stainless-steel appliances. The home, with 12-foot ceilings, includes a private backyard and exposed brick walls. The bedroom can accommodate a king-size bed frame. Monthly charges are below average for the area, with the fee for this residence at $371. The 850-square-foot unit 2X incorporates a walk-in closet and foyer. Some residences have been outfitted with in-unit washer/dryers, although there is a sizable laundry room in the basement. Though only four floors high, 61-20 Woodside is fully equipped with elevators, which are ideal for residents that frequently utilize the subterranean bike and storage rooms.
Thriving but unspoiled downtown Woodside
The stretch of Woodside Avenue immediately outside the condo’s front door is lined with a wide variety of long-established, owner-operated eateries reflective of central Queen’s cultural diversity. Yet, unlike the bustling food scene found along Northern Boulevard, this pocket remains relatively undiscovered by tourists or other New Yorkers. While Sean Og’s is an upscale Irish pub, F. Ottomanelli serves up gourmet burgers and Belgian fries. Directly across the street, Pollos Mario is a Colombian staple. Champion Supermarket is the closest grocery store. Slightly farther afield, Roosevelt Avenue abounds with even more popular haunts including Renee’s Kitchenette & Grill and Phil-Am Food Mart, specialized in Filipino products. “Many of the restaurants in this area have small countertop displays of similar snacks,” a 2024 Culinary Backstreets article reports. “By afternoon, even on chilly days, a few street vendors might sell their own homemade confections. In warm weather, they’re joined once a month by an outdoor food fair that crowds the sidewalk with more confections, pour-over coffee fattened by condensed milk.” Doughboy Plaza is a small park and war memorial that leads into the Lawrence Virgilio Playground and Skating Evolution roller rink.
Nearby road and rail links to “the city”
One of 61-20 Woodside Avenue’s main attributes is its proximity to the combined 61st Street subway and Woodside Long Island Rail Road station just up the street. The commute to Midtown Manhattan on the 7 line takes just under half an hour. With a quick transfer at Jamaica Station, getting to JFK Airport is also straightforward. Also stopping at this transit hub, the Q70 bus reaches LaGuardia airport in 20 minutes. Residents that easily find street parking near the building can access the Brooklyn Queens Expressway at the nearby intersection of 69th Street and 37th Avenue.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
