Understated elegance and city views within walking distance of Midtown
On a recent visit toHalcyon, a 33-story glass-and-limestone tower in Manhattan’s Turtle Bay neighborhood, residents filled its 22nd-floor Sky Lounge for a meeting, with lunch made in its full kitchen. Upstairs, they can practice poses or swim laps in the double-height yoga studio and separate pool area with views of the Chrysler Building and the East River. “It’s rare to see amenities on an upper level like this,” Kevin Stefanak, an agent with the Eklund/Gomes Team at Douglas Elliman with a listing in the building. “Most developers don’t want to give up that real estate since the values are higher on the top floors.” In addition to its sun-filled amenity spaces, walnut, travertine and bronze accents bring an understated luxury to the building. Designed by SLCE Architects with interiors by S. Russell Groves, the building is also within walking distance of Midtown and Grand Central Terminal, a big plus for many commuters. A full-time doorman and concierge services round out the amenities, creating a worthy retreat in the heart of the city.
Concierge services and sunny yoga studio
Built in 2013, Halcyon’s upper-level amenities also include an indoor sundeck, a sauna and a steam room in the pool area, and a fitness center, complete with a dedicated concierge available to book appointments in the massage room. A glass-enclosed staircase connects the 21st and 22nd floors, giving it a club-like feel. Residents come home to a recently renovated lobby with a 24-hour doorman. It features bronze accents, a warm color palette and a seating area under an abstract, three-dimensional mural. Stairs lead to a mezzanine level with a library and lounge that opens to a terrace with a fire pit. Other amenities include a kids’ playroom, a package room and storage.
Open floor plans lead to outdoor space
The Halcyon has 123 units, ranging from studios to four bedrooms with four bathrooms and a powder room. Units have floor-to-ceiling windows, 10-foot ceilings, Poliform kitchens with Sub-Zero and Miele appliances and marble and bronze finishes throughout. Residences offer open floor plans, many extending to expansive outdoor spaces that overlook the neighborhood, which includes the Chrysler and Lipstick buildings. Prices start at around $1.2 million for a studio and $1.5 million for a one-bedroom residence. A four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom unit with a wraparound terrace costs roughly $7 million, while a top-floor penthouse commands just under $12 million. Sebastian Steinau of Corcoran recently represented a three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom unit on the sixth floor, priced at $3.3 million. The sellers have lived in the building since it opened, but were looking to downsize. “They loved the Halcyon. There was no other reason to move, other than a change in their lives,” Steinau says, adding that the buyers were a young family. For those looking to explore other living options without giving up their pad completely, Halcyon owners can lease their units. A one-bedroom rents for around $5,500 a month, while a three-bedroom home fetches about $13,000 a month.
Restaurants, parking and supermarkets on Second Avenue
The area immediately surrounding Halcyon has primarily low- to mid-rise buildings, making for a sunny neighborhood. “The location is great,” Steinau says. “There are incredible restaurants and parking on the same block. Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Morton’s Supermarket are close by. One of the best Japanese ramen places in the city is right across the street.” Indeed, Hide-Chan Ramen offers five-star noodle soup, while The Smith, serving upscale American fare, is just a block away. Buttercup BakeShop is across the street, as is the Cornerstone Tavern, a sports bar.
Walkable to Midtown and Grand Central Terminal
Residents who work in Midtown can walk to the office in about 20 to 25 minutes. The 6 train is just a few blocks from Halcyon on Lexington Avenue, as are the E and M lines at East 53rd Street. Grand Central Terminal is about a 15-minute walk. Drivers can be on Franklin D. Roosevelt East River Drive in about 5 minutes or the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge in about 10 minutes.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
