Lincoln Towers is aptly dubbed for its close proximity to the world-famous complex of performing facilities just a few short blocks away. This, of course, is no small thing. For many, the notion of being able to take a leisurely five-minute stroll to enjoy such Lincoln Center institutions as the New York Philharmonic, The Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet — or even the landmark Revson Fountain with its dramatic choreographed water displays — is the very definition of Manhattan luxury. The eight-building co-op complex was built between 1960 and 1964 by Webb and Knapp, one of the country’s largest real-estate developers spearheaded by prominent American investor William Zeckendorf. In total, there are 3,837 units — give or take — across the 20-acre campus. Fun fact: Because so many people live in the Lincoln Towers, some buildings have their own poll sites.

The largest building in the complex, 140 West End Avenue, has 561 units. When residents exit, they find themselves on West 66th Street in an elongated driveway dotted with sizable oak trees. From the street looking westwards, they can spot the waterfront along the Hudson River and the greenway beyond. The location provides easy access to not just the best in culture and the arts, but also the best of the Upper West Side.
Accessible prices for large spaces in the iconic co-op on the Upper West Side
“If you want to live in this part of the Upper West Side and have the Lincoln Square lifestyle, this is the best place to buy at an accessible price,” says Milenko Pekija, associate real estate broker at Douglas Elliman, who has sold and resold multiple units in the building. “At this iconic co-op, you get great value for your money. The size is larger than comparable condo buildings in the neighborhood.” The simplest of listings, a south-facing alcove studio on the 2nd floor with the original wooden checkboard flooring, sold for $419,000 in July 2024. Similarly, a renovated one-bedroom on the 24th floor with a private balcony and a new kitchen sold for $1.06 million in March 2024. The grandest of listings, a combined penthouse unit renovated by Minnesota-based PKA Architecture with a custom 1,191-bottle temperature-controlled wine cellar sold for $2.5 million in June 2023.
Elegantly modest amenities, including acres of parklands and private security
Lincoln Towers is a full-service co-operative; each building has a 24-hour door attendant and live-in superintendent. “You can enjoy your time here,” says Pekija. “It is very quiet because it is so big. It’s like the Vatican; like its own little town within Manhattan.” The rectangular complex of eight buildings is bounded by West End Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue between 66th and 67th Streets. Round-the-clock private security patrols the landscaped campus. Sidewalks weave through the grassy grounds dotted with oak trees and cozy park benches. Residents can access amenities located in different buildings across the grounds, including a decent sized gym with endearingly démodé cardio machines and weight training equipment. Along with wait-listed private storage and bicycle parking, laundry facilities can be found in each tower. Dedicated parking spaces — and outright luxury — in the underground garage, are available on a first-come basis and have been waitlisted for years.
The neighborhood with all the culture, and much more
This locale is defined by its proximity to the Lincoln Center of Performing Arts, New York City’s premiere destination for classic cultural entertainment: music, theater, dance, film and opera (and New York Public Library’s special building dedicated to a collection exclusively about the performing arts). People move here to be near it and other iconic Upper West Side institutions, including The Juilliard School, Fordham University, Westside YMCA, and the American Art Folk Museum. A 15-minute walk south, residents can find Deutsche Bank Center (formerly known as Time Warner Center), which houses The Shops at Columbus Circle, The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Jazz at Lincoln Center and a large Whole Foods, which occupies the entire basement. Outdoorsy types are just blocks from Riverside Park, beloved by Upper West Siders for such features as the Hudson River Kayak Launch, Beach Volleyball Courts and Big River Playground. And just a few blocks east is Central Park, with its legendary westside green spaces, including Strawberry Fields, and the Sheep Meadow. Closer to home, denizens can walk five minutes in any direction to one of the neighborhood’s grocery stores, including Brooklyn Fare, Morton Williams and Gourmet Garage.
Two blocks from the 1 train at Lincoln Center
Residents can exit the lobby of 140 West End Avenue and walk two blocks east to 66th Street – Lincoln Center Station to access the 1 train. Meanwhile, the major westside transportation hub, 59th Street – Columbus Circle Station, which services the A, B, C, D and 1 trains, is a 15-minute walk south. Meanwhile, Citi Bikes near Amsterdam Avenue are ideal for short, local trips.
