The Tudor, a six-story brick building with 90 units, is located on tree-lined Johnson Avenue in central Riverdale. That means residents can look over the leafy neighborhood from their terraces.
The mid-rise built in 1955 features midcentury architecture with neatly trimmed green hedges that lead to a glass entrance in the postwar building.
The co-op features studios, one- two- and three-bedroom residences. Some recently sold units include a 500-square-foot studio for $150,000 in 2021, a 950-square-foot one-bedroom for $295,000 in 2023 and a 1,500-square-foot three-bedroom for $575,000 in 2021.
The Riverdale section of Bronx is enjoying a renaissance as more people discover the real estate values, says Geoffrey Weiss, licensed associate real estate broker at Compass and a Riverdale resident.
“I often call Riverdale a hidden gem of New York City, because the value for the price is really overlooked by a lot of buyers,” Weiss says. “I think there’s the Bronx stigma that exists in this neighborhood as well. Where this neighborhood is really starting to be discovered by people otherwise would be looking in Brooklyn and upper Manhattan and are finding themselves priced out.”
Postwar co-op details
Modern aesthetics prevail in this postwar building. The interiors of the residences offer simple midcentury design with clean lines. Some of the units have been updated, blending modern amenities with the postwar architecture. Hardwood flooring is a décor staple. Large windows allow for plenty of natural light. Some units feature private terraces or balconies, offering outdoor sitting and dining space and neighborhood views. The postwar construction offers larger closets, and layouts often include separate dining areas.
Co-op shoppers looking in Riverdale typically check out both The Tudor and The Savoy, also on Johnson Avenue in the same price range, says Sanjya Tidke, team leader at Brown Harris Stevens and a Riverdale resident. Both are in the popular value price range, she adds.
“I call them the sister buildings because the clientele who is looking at The Savoy would look at The Tudor also because of the location — both on Johnson Avenue,” Tidke says.
“However, The Savoy offers a bigger layout. The Tudor offers a sunken living room, and it’s really charming.”
Modern style
The lobby is in a modern style, with marble flooring in a minimalist style. Laundry facilities are on site and extra storage as well as bicycle storage are available. An elevator offers accessibility. There is a live-in superintendent on site. Garden spaces offer residents areas for socializing and relaxing.
The Tudor doesn’t offer luxury amenities such as 24-hour door attendant or a gym, says Weiss. Instead, its focus is on value and practicality.
Urban conveniences with suburban touches
Right near the co-op are plenty of green spaces as well as shopping options. It’s a perfect blend of urban and suburban living, Tidke says.
The neighborhood's hilly terrain provides views of the Hudson River. Van Cortlandt Park offers hiking trails and a public golf course. Wave Hill, a 28-acre public garden and cultural center, is nearby for the art and nature lover. Ewen Park is about a 10-minute walk from the building.
There are plenty of diverse ethnic restaurants as well as cafes within walking distance, such as El Tina Riverdale Restaurant, El Economico and Lech y Miel Restaurant.
For shopping, there’s Riverdale Crossing anchored by BJ’s Wholesale Club and The Shops at Marble Hill with Target and Marshalls. Key Food Supermarket is about a five-minute walk from the co-op.
Transit options
Riverdale is served by Metro-North and the subway for travel to Manhattan. The Metro-North's Hudson Line at Marble Hill Station, about a 25-minute walk or 7-minute drive, takes about 30 minutes to reach Midtown. The Spuyten Duyvil Metro-North station is another option and slightly closer to the building, about 22 minutes walking or 5 minutes in a car. The 238 Street subway station, about 15 minutes from the building on foot, is served by the 1 subway line connecting to the west side of Manhattan. The bus line Bx10 runs through Riverdale on West 231 Street. Major highways include the Henry Hudson Parkway and the Major Deegan Expressway are nearby for travel in and out of the Bronx.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
