Glocester is a sizable township in west Providence County, Rhode Island. The town is made up of two villages, Chepachet and Harmony. Chepachet is considered the town center and feels like a classic New England small town, complete with local dining and grocery options. Beyond the two villages, Glocester is known for its seclusion, foliage and numerous undeveloped land lots. Foster-Glocester Schools is ranked the No. 1 school district in Providence County on Niche and No. 5 in the state; it features Ponaganset Middle and Ponaganset High School, both rated a B-plus on Niche. For elementary schools, Glocester Public Schools serves the area. Students can attend Fogarty Memorial Elementary, rated an A-minus on Niche.
Ponaganset High School is south of South of Chepachet near Ponaganset Middle School.
Fogarty Memorial Elementary School in Scituate serves 307 students grades k through 5.

A 20-mile commute to Providence
Coupe says, "Some people work in Providence and commute there, and some are more tied to the land and the agricultural opportunities in Glocester." The main road of Putnam Pike doubles as U.S. Route 44 and can take residents to Providence after a 20-mile drive. At the same time, a 36-mile drive north will take residents to Worcester. RIPTA Bus Route 9X also runs along Route 44 and has direct stops to local spots like Dino's Park and Shop, Village Bean Café and significant shopping districts in neighboring Greenville. Glocester's tree-lined expanses offer breathing room, recreation and land lot potential, while their villages provide local businesses and small-town amenities.

Visit America's oldest continuously running general store
Residents can find local dining and retail spots in Chepachet village. Brown and Hopkins Country Store, America's oldest continuously running general store, opened in 1809 and continues to serve Glocester. On Putnam Pike, Dino's Park and Shop is a local grocer offering custom meat cuts, produce and baked goods. Drive further east, and residents can eat at Gentlemen Farmer Restaurant, a diner serving home-cooked breakfast and seafood specials. For a morning bite, Village Bean Café is a rustic diner serving food, handcrafted coffees and large muffins.

From lakes and forest to county clubs
Glocester is filled with unique locales full of natural Rhode Island beauty. Smith and Sayles Reservoir is a 186-acre lake with tree-dotted shores and numerous coves to explore by canoe or kayak. It's also a fishing lake where residents can catch largemouth bass and yellow perch. Sprague Farm Town Forest is a sprawling 1,200-acre woodland with several walking trails through white pine and birch trees, with a small conservation area that allows archery and black-powder hunting. And for golf, Glocester Country Club members can tee up on a private course and driving range overlooking Waterman Reservoir.

A satirical tradition dating back to 1926
Glocester has a unique tradition every July 4th, the Ancients and Horribles Parade. As the history goes, back in 1926, President Calvin Coolidge paraded through Glocester with the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts; Rhode Island residents poked fun at the event and created a parody parade in the following years. A satirical tradition for more than 97 years, locals make timely cultural and political jokes through costumes and parade floats as part of Independence Day celebrations.
