Auburn Gresham has lower home prices than nearby neighborhoods
Auburn Gresham is more affordable than a lot of the surrounding neighborhoods. Its median housing price is slightly lower than those for Wrightwood, Brainerd and West Chatham. It’s significantly lower than Beverly, where homes are bigger. Only Englewood is lower, due to more renters. You can get a home here for around the low $200,000s to the low $400,000s. If you’re looking for an investment property or a fixer-upper, you can find those for under $150,000. “Bungalows were often built with unfinished basements and attics so they can build a whole second unit and make use of that,” Teuthorn says.

If you don’t have your own bike, there are plenty of Divvy bikeshare stations. You’re about 13 miles from The Loop here, but commuters have a couple of options. The Metra’s RI line has two stops and goes downtown. You can also head 2 miles east to hop on the Red Line or Interstate 94. It’s about 20 minutes by car and an hour by train.
