The neighborhood is named after Civil War hero, Gen. Philip Henry Sheridan. “The district is a little quieter than the rest of Uptown," says Anastaciia Hurtova, a licensed broker with Compass Realty. “Sheridan Park was originally developed as a suburban neighborhood. Because of that, some of the single-family homes here sit on good-sized lots, which is very unusual in Chicago." Like many other Uptown neighborhoods, Sheridan 's walkability makes living here incredibly convenient. It's close to shopping, Wrigley Field and the lakefront.The opulent architecture of the roaring ’20s is on display at the Aragon Ballroom. Architects Andrew and William Karzas designed the ballroom to resemble a Spanish palace courtyard. Stucco Baroque arches on the exterior entice customers inside to view the elaborate chandeliers and terracotta ceilings. Opened initially to host public dancing, it transformed into an entertainment venue that has featured both Hispanic and American musical concerts. Artists such as Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac and Nirvana have graced the stage at Aragon. Sheridan Park is also home to the Green Mill, a cocktail lounge and jazz spot that hosted the likes of Louie Armstrong and Al Jolson. Today the icon bar is known for its Poetry Slam on Sundays. The neighborhood's proximity to Montrose Beach's shoreline makes it easy to enjoy other entertainment venues there and in neighboring communities.

Homebuyers can find tall glass windows and high-tech amenities at area condominiums. However, for those searching a vintage feel, Sheridan Park also has older single-family homes. Victorian, Chicago Four-Square, Colonial revival and bungalow homes are common. Many feature brightly painted exteriors. Playgrounds, beaches and cemeteries
Much of the neighborhood is pocketed by green spaces and play areas for younger children. The southern half of Sheridan Park is home to the winding walkways, haunting statues and tree canopies of Graceland Cemetery. The final resting place for many of Chicago’s most historic figures, it’s not only an actively operating cemetery, but it is also a well-designed arboretum where locals can enjoy nature amongst the tranquil landscape. With its intricate mausoleums and grave sites and the quiet pond, the cemetery is an important part of Sheridan Park’s composition. For those who seek the sunshine and shorelines, Sheridan Park is just over a mile from the famous Montrose Beach.
