This neighborhood is predominantly single-family homes
Most homes here are Chicago bungalows and workers’ cottages built in the 40s and 50s. “It is a single-family neighborhood, but there are some apartments and two-flats and three-flats,” says broker Erika Villegas with Re/Max in the Village and a previous West Lawn resident. “It’s probably a 70-30 mix.” As a more residential part of the city, West Lawn homes often have personal touches, like little front gardens. Back alleyways run parallel to streets, hiding detached garages from sight, but offering spots to park instead of the street.

West Lawn’s home prices are about on par with the surrounding neighborhoods. Its median housing price is about $310,000, which is just $10,000 less than neighboring West Elsdon, but about $30,000 more than Marquette Park and Scottsdale. Most homes here fall between the $200,000s and the mid $400,000s.
You can walk to local diners and taco spots
You can walk to your favorite local restaurant in West Lawn. “Huck Finn Restaurant has amazing breakfast and great donuts, pastries and ice cream,” Villegas says. “That’s a neighborhood favorite because its always packed.” Paco’s Tacos is a casual Mexican spot where they serve tacos in small plastic baskets. Palermo’s has a comprehensive menu with plenty of pasta and pizza options. “You have a good mix of things that have been here for 20 years and then others from the past 5 years,” Villegas says.

Indoor and outdoor activities around West Lawn
Parks are also within walking distance in this neighborhood. West Lawn Park’s turf field hosts a lot of local soccer leagues, while baseball games are primarily at Madigan Park. “They also have a lot of indoor activities in the winter. My young one was taking soccer classes in West Lawn last winter,” Villegas says. The Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture showcases Lithuanian art, history, language and cuisine in its exhibits and programs. While not within walking distance, major grocery stores like Walmart and Target are next door in Bedford Park, just a short drive away.

West Lawn's transit options and the proximity to Midway
West Lawn residents are within walking distance of Midway International. “We’re on the edges of the city, so you have a lot of city workers like police officers and teachers, and then you have a mix of people who work at the airport,” Villegas says. Buses: Stops line major streets like Pulaski and 63rd.
Interstate 55: Just 3 miles away, I-55 heads downtown and to the suburbs.

West Lawn is part of Chicago Public Schools. It’s a school-choice district, but there’s a number of schools within walking distance. Hubbard High School is located right in the middle of the neighborhood and offers the International Baccalaureate Program.
