Clyde blends nature, community events and renovation appeal

Home to a large Whirlpool manufacturer, Clyde is more than an industrial town. The village is close to major cities yet draws people seeking homes to renovate or a place to escape the big city. Clyde also features several outdoor recreation areas and is a short drive from Lake Erie, so that residents can enjoy access to nature at their convenience. Clyde also has events that draw the community together, including an Independence Day Parade, Trick-or-Treating and a large holiday celebration called "Wineburg Christmas."

Mix of classic architecture and midcentury ranch homes

Developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, most homes are Farmhouse-style, Victorian, Four Square and Craftsman-style. The streets are lined with trees that shade green lots and quiet sidewalks. Most homes are being renovated to have modern updates while showcasing classic architecture. As homes developed away from the center of the village between the mid-to-late 20th century, there were ranch styles and split levels. Prices across Clyde are between $130,000 and $315,000, typically depending on the updates completed.

B-rated public schools with strong community sports program

Clyde-Green Springs School District serves the community. Students may start at Clyde Elementary, which earns an overall B rating from Niche. They may then attend B-rated McPherson Middle and B-rated Clyde High. Athletics are key here, and the Clyde Fliers bring residents to Robert Bishop Stadium for Friday night football. The school has 22 athletic program options, including swimming, golf, basketball and bowling. The district also operates Clyde Preschool.

Clyde offers walking paths, waterslides and wooded escapes

Clyde Community Park is the village's central green space. Paved walking trails wind through grassy lawns, across Racoon Creek and around the park's pond. Covered bridges offer a shady space to take in the scenery, with oak, birch and maple trees that turn vibrant colors each autumn. There's also a sand volleyball pit, a playground and a pool with waterslides. Clyde Dog Park is adjacent to the Community Park, offering a large grassy area with benches and a water fountain. Clyde also operated Cherry Street Park, a small, quiet green space with a walking loop, a playground and a basketball court. North Coast Inland Trail runs through Clyde, a 28-mile walking and biking path that stretches from Elmore to Bellevue. Surrounding Clyde are several recreation areas: Green Hill Golf Course, which has public tee times, and The Woods at Luscombe Farm, a woodsy nature preserve. The town is about 10 miles from the parks along Sandusky Bay, and 30 miles from Lake Erie.

Community events include fairs, parades and holiday shows

The village has a small downtown area with a few small businesses, bars and restaurants around South Main Street, which still has charming original storefronts. Eateries like Route 20 Diner offer classic comfort foods like burgers, while Wild Brew has handcrafted coffee drinks and pastries. There's a Miller's Super Valu for groceries, and nearby Fremont has more options, including Walmart, ALDI and Kroger.

Clyde has a rich calendar of events, including the Clyde Fair, which features carnival rides, games and food like funnel cakes and corn dogs. Downtown features a monthly Community Market with craft vendors and an outdoor jazz show at the Clyde Museum. There's also "Winesburg Christmas," which features holiday markets, a Christmas parade, tree lighting, and a fireworks show.

Clyde offers small-town living with city access and healthcare

Clyde is about 45 miles from Toledo, the nearest big city. Major highways leading to Toledo include the Ohio Turnpike/Interstate 90. The closest airports are the Eugene F Kranz Toledo Express Airport, 55 miles away, and the Detroit Wayne County Metropolitan Airport, 90 miles away. The nearest medical center is Firelands Health Bellevue Hospital, about 6 miles from Clyde. The community has a CAP Index Crime Score of four out of 10, the same as the national figure.
