Located in the center of Florida between two of the most popular cities, Orlando and Tampa, is Davenport. Davenport is a world away from those large cities with affordable home prices and a decent cost of living. Most people who live here own their homes with only a small portion being renters. Most of the homes have been built in the 80s, 90s and 2000s.
Most homes found in Davenport are larger family homes. The different neighborhoods reflect the different types of people that can be found here. For example, the Osceola Polk Line Ro/S Lake Wilson Rd neighborhood is largely a vacation community. This means for the majority of the year, the homes here are vacant. The homes are all new construction built in the 2000s but they are packed into the area. Another area with newer, vacation homes is the Route 27/Holly Hill Dr area. However, in this area, there are also many mobile homes. Neighborhoods like these two are quite readily found since Florida is known as a vacation state where people often live for the winter months and leave in the summer. Ridgewood Lakes is a gated community with a championship golf course. It is popular with seniors. Hampton estates is another community and it features medium sized homes and a family-friendly atmosphere. Island Club West is a affluent neighborhood of mostly older couple with newer construction homes.
Due to its location, there are many employment opportunities surrounding the Davenport area with large companies, like Disney. Many residents do commute due to the relatively stalled economy in the city. However, Davenport does have some prospects, like the Posner Park outdoor shopping mall. Like much of Florida, the main industries in the city are tourism, hospitality and travel. However, health care and customer service are also offering great employment options. Dominating the job market in Davenport, though, are small businesses, which showcase the entrepreneur spirit of the city.
