Make no mistake about it: Arcadia, California, is prime real estate, and the housing market here reflects that. Luxury homes are abundant, and seven figure price tags are commonplace in this area, as are king-sized floor plans and fabulous amenities. Those just starting out may find the heavy trade in foreclosures offers a chance to move in on a tighter budget, but most of those homes are pretty glamorous, too. Come see what this area has to offer you; hopefully you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Situated just thirteen miles outside Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley, Arcadia is one of the nation’s richest neighborhoods, which may have helped it also snag the honor of being one of the best places to raise kids. The population is inching toward 60,000, and it’s very diverse, which has made Arcadia a hub for fine international dining. A list of residents’ top ten favorite places to eat featured three chain restaurants and seven locally-owned, globetrotting destinations. There’s great shopping, golf and spa options as well, meaning day to day life can come pretty close to a vacation here. The Arboretum and Botanic Garden is a world-class destination whose grounds are strolled by peacocks and hens, a symbol of the city.

Arcadia’s history is like that of many surrounding communities--originally peopled by Native Americans, in this case the Tongva people, the land changed hands and was colonized by Spanish missionaries, then made part of a Mexican land grant before being purchased by Elias Jackson "Lucky" baldwin and beginning the long journey to what it has since become. During World War I, the U.S. Army based its Ross Field Balloon School in town, training recruits to observe the enemy from hot air balloons. That site is home today to one of Arcadia’s biggest attractions, the Santa Anita Park racetrack, where Northern California’s own Seabiscuit became an icon in the racing world. The region has appeared in numerous films and iconic television shows: the plane ("The plane! The plane!") bringing guests to Fantasy Island is in fact landing out behind the Arboretum. Any place fine enough to stand in for Fantasy Island surely has something to offer you, whether it’s top-ranked schools, a wild landscape on the edge of civilization or just a gorgeous place to call home. Arcadia, located on America’s historic Route 66, may be the ideal place to get your kicks, or simply kick off your shoes and enjoy.
