A fast-growing, popular place to live in Hamilton County
Fishers is one of the fastest-growing cities in Indiana, with a population that has increased from 7,500 residents in 1990 to more than 100,000 today. In response to the growth, economic development has become a city focus, with new shops and restaurants opening and former industrial districts being converted into community gathering places. Launch Fishers, a coworking space that supports entrepreneurs in the region, has led to an increase in local businesses within the city. The southwest Indianapolis suburb has much to offer, according to local Realtor Kelly Dather with the Kelly Dather Real Estate Group, who specializes in the area. He says, "We have a location that feels small, but you're 30 minutes from a major city. We have great family amenities and tons of things to do. We've got parks where you can swim and rollerblade and parks where you can hike on trails and play baseball."

Active parks bring fun and excitement to Fishers
Fishers' offers a robust parks system. The city has two dozen park properties totaling over 600 acres, including 61 sports fields and two splash pads. There are also 131 miles of nature and multi-use trails throughout the city for residents to explore the scenery and exercise. Roy G. Holland Memorial Park is a hub for rec sports with ball fields and soccer pitches. Geist Reservoir, the largest artificial lake in the Indianapolis area, is home to Geist Waterfront Park, which rents kayaks and has a beach. Conner Prairie, the historic site of the first settlement in Fishers, now serves the community as a living history museum. This expansive 200-acre park hosts Symphony on the Prairie every summer, featuring concerts by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Never a dull moment in the Nickel Plate District
Fishers' downtown, known as the Nickel Plate District, is the city's shopping, dining and entertainment destination. Centered around East 116th Street, the area offers everything from classic bar food to Thai dishes and traditional Mexican cuisine. Locals can dine at swanky cocktail lounges or casual counter-serve chains. Shopping options include grocery stores and big-box retail.
Hamilton Town Center offers more than 100 retailers and restaurants on the north side of Fishers.
Annual events also take place downtown. The Nickel Plate District Amphitheater hosts free summer concerts. The yearly festival, Spark!Fishers takes place during the last week of June and includes food, music, a 5K, and a parade.
The face of Fishers will continue to change with the opening of the 7,500-seat Fishers Event Center in November 2024. The new indoor arena will host concerts and serve as the home rink for the Indy Fuel, an ECHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks that formerly played at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. The team's practice rink, the Indy Fuel Tank, is open to the public for ice skating and recreational hockey when the Fuel isn't practicing.
Ruoff Music Center, an outdoor concert venue with a capacity of around 25,000, is just across Fishers' northern boundary in Noblesville.

Access to Interstate 69 ideal for commuters
Due to Fishers' suburban layout, most people drive to get where they need to go around town or in the greater Indianapolis region. There is no public transportation available in the city. Fishers is about 20 miles from downtown Indianapolis and offers easy access to several highways, including Interstate 69, which cuts through the middle of town. Residents are about 35 miles from Indianapolis International Airport. Indianapolis Metropolitan Airport is a general aviation airport located in Fishers. Fishers has a pair of hospitals, IU Health Saxony and Ascension St. Vincent Fishers, on the northeastern edge of the city near the border with Noblesville.
