The city is named after the old Reading Railroad. This railroad transported anthracite coal from Pennsylvania's Coal Region to areas in the eastern United States. In addition, the railroad was one of the four railroads used in the Monopoly board game. Today, Reading sits along major transportation routes that run through the East and Central parts of the state. Reading also has its own airport, Reading Regional Airport. In addition, it is conveniently located to several other larger airports. Many people that live in Reading use the local buses to get around town. The BARTA has been servicing people in the area for over 40 years. In addition, numerous companies operate out of the area, including Wal-Mart, Boscov's, and Penske. The city is also home to two major hospitals, providing health care and jobs to the residents.
