Riverwalk Park, Monocacy Village Park and Fredericktowne Village Park
Schifferstadt Boulevard separates Riverwalk Park and Monocacy Village Park, but the same stream cuts through both. At the former, there’s a baseball diamond, a playground, a softball field and paths for walking or biking, which extend out of the park, go near the Monocacy River and meander into nearby townhouse communities. At this hilly park, organized sports programs like Little League and Adult Softball play their games. It’s also the only park in the area with an inline hockey rink where residents can roller skate. Monocacy Village Park has a basketball court, baseball diamond, tennis court, playground and paths for walking or biking. It’s also home to the Frederick Pump Track, a dirt-based, jump-filled path for offroad bikers. Also in the neighborhood is the smaller Fredericktowne Village Park, within walking distance of some homes. It offers picnic tables, a playground, a basketball court and walking and biking paths. The neighborhood also borders the Monocacy River, where Grove says, “People canoe, fish and kayak on it all the time.”

Established eateries to the south, new builds to the north
“You can eat your way through Frederick,” Grove says. “There’s a greater concentration of locally owned restaurants downtown, but there’s also been a lot of new development on the outskirts.” In downtown Frederick, about 2 miles south of the neighborhood, rows of shops and restaurants line the streets. Popular dinner spots include Hootch and Banter, a modern American restaurant that doesn’t take reservations and has an interior with exposed brick, leather couches and vibrant carpets, and Frederick Social, a self-pour taphouse with floor-to-ceiling windows that open on hot days. About 2 miles north, locals can head to the Market Square area, a mixed-use community with dining, shopping and retail options, to run errands. At the Clemson Corner shopping center, residents can go grocery shopping at Wegmans, grab household supplies from Lowe’s Home Improvement, or get something to eat from Madrones. This American restaurant serves steak, seafood, burgers and more.

Single-family homes, townhouses and condos
Single-family homes in Fredericktowne Village sit on wide, walkable streets with sidewalks. A few trees dot front yards, but there isn’t a lot of shade in the neighborhood. Potential homebuyers can find a split-level, bilevel or Colonial Revival home for $180,000 to $485,000. 1987 is the median year that homes were built in the neighborhood. “The homes being older keeps prices down,” Grove says. There are nearly as many townhouses as single-family properties in Fredericktowne Village, typically costing $180,000 to $390,000. Condos are also available, ranging in price from $195,000 to $260,000.

Frederick County Public Schools
The neighborhood is zoned for Frederick County Public Schools. Students can attend North Frederick Elementary School, Governor Thomas Johnson Middle School and Governor Thomas Johnson High School. Niche grades all of these schools a B-plus. Governor Thomas Johnson High School is home to the Academy of Fine Arts, a visual and performing arts program that students must audition for. If admitted, students will develop their portfolio and enrich their artist education through workshops, contact with professionals and field trips to plays, museums and concerts.

2 miles to downtown Frederick
Downtown Frederick is about 2 miles south of the neighborhood, and locals can get there via Market Street. Transit buses run along Schifferstadt Boulevard and 16th Street, leading north to Walmart and south to the MARC station in downtown Frederick. “They have a limited schedule that only runs in the morning and evening,” Grove says. “It’s really just a commuter train that connects you to D.C.” The nation’s capital is about 50 miles southeast, and locals can get there using U.S. Interstate 270, while the state’s capital, Baltimore, is about 50 miles east using U.S. Interstate 70. In case of emergency, the Frederick Health Hospital is about 2 miles south. Fort Detrick, the city’s largest employer, is about 3 miles west. And when it’s time for vacation, the Dulles International Airport is about 45 miles south.
