Mesa County Valley School District No. 51 provides quality public schools in Grand Junction. The district has 47 schools serving over 22,000 students, making it the largest school district in the Western Slope region and the 14th largest district in the state. Mesa County Valley School District No. 51 has a variety of excellent programs including gifted and talented coursework, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate. Gateway School, Mesa Valley Community School, and Caprock Academy are some of the best schools in the district. As for higher education opportunities, Grand Junction is home to Colorado Mesa University and Western Colorado Community College.
Commuting in Grand Junction
Grand Junction is revered as one of the best biking towns in the country and has been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists. Frequent cycling events and miles of bike lanes and trails make bicycling a popular mode of transportation in the city. Consequently, 2.35 percent of Grand Junction commuters ride their bikes to work. Due to its bicycle-friendly amenities and secluded location in the Grand Valley, Grand Junction residents enjoy an average commute of only 15 minutes. Interstate 70 and Route 50 allow residents to travel outside of the city with ease. Grand Valley Transit provides buses locally as well. Grand Junction Regional Airport has several airlines and provides connection flights to Denver International Airport.
